Bio
Teri Ralston made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s COMPANY creating the role of Jenny, which she also did in Los Angeles and London. Immediately following this she was cast in Sondheim’s A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC creating the role of Mrs. Nordstom. Her association with Sondheim has continued over the years performing in or directing 11 of his works which include playing Sally in 3 productions of FOLLIES, and later, Mrs. Armfeldt, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, INTO THE WOODS, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, which she directed, PUTTING IT TOGETHER, CANDIDE, GYPSY, and directing and co-staring in SIDE-BY-SIDE-BY-SONDHEIM with Peggy Lee.
Teri has had the opportunity to work with many of the greatest creators in theatre history.
She worked with Onna White, Michael Bennet, and had a long and wonderful relationship with Hal Prince. Her work with Stephen Schwartz includes the original BAKER’S WIFE in which he wrote CHANSON for her, and the movie GEPPETTO. She also had the pleasure of being the leading lady in Cy Coleman’s HOME AGAIN, HOME AGAIN, which unfortunately closed in Toronto. She worked many times with Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, and many others.
Some of her favorite roles include, Mama Rose, in GYPSY, Mame, in MAME. Sally Bowles and later Frauline Schneider in CABARET, Maria and later Mother Abbess in SOUND OF MUSIC, Carrie and later Cousin Nettie in CAROUSEL, and Meg in DAMN YANKEES, to name a few. In cabaret and concerts, she has performed around the world. She was the soloist with Michael Feinstein and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Hollywood Bowl and with New Mexico Symphony. She is featured on 7 original cast albums, 3 CDs recorded in London and a solo CD,“I Gotta Get Back to New York”. A few of her television credits include FRASIER, MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, ONE DAY AT A TIME, DHARMA AND GREG, MURDER SHE WROTE and WINGS.
Having had the opportunity to work and learn from so many of the great talents in theatre, Teri is able to draw on all this as a teacher, which has been a big part of her life. She has taught in universities, High Schools of the Performing Arts, AMDA in New York, given seminars across the country and done private coaching and taught voice most of her professional life. She is very excited about being involved with this great Broadway Mentors Program.
Teri spreads her time between New York City, Stockbridge, MA, and Palm Springs, CA.
